After a month off I’m back with yet another obscure but powerful technique of self-programming. With this highly unusual method you will be imprinting instructions into your subconscious mind using ordinary and very familiar table implements. You’ll need nothing more than a plate and a spoon to change your beliefs, obtain answers to your questions, or even manifest your desires by manipulating the reality itself.
Discovery of this technique is attributed to Salvador Dali. It is believed that the genius artist used it to enter certain states of consciousness through which he received ideas and inspiration for his famous works. It’s not known whether Dali practiced magick, but anyone who saw Dali’s paintings will agree without a doubt that they didn’t originate in the ordinary waking world.
The procedure itself is overwhelmingly simple and can be performed without much preparation. To do it you sit in you favorite comfy armchair or sofa (it must have armrests — it’s important) where you can totally relax your body and drift off to sleep. Place your arms on the armrests in a comfortable position while gently holding a teaspoon in one of your hands between your thumb and index finger. Your hand with a teaspoon should be hanging off the armrest a little. On the floor directly underneath it a small plate or bowl must be placed beforehand, bottom side up. You are ready to begin.
Sitting in that armchair and holding the teaspoon in your hand, you close your eyes and begin thinking your goal or the question you want to be answered by your subconscious mind. After some contemplation you relax and allow yourself to become drowsy and drift off to sleep. It resembles meditation with the key difference that you actually want to fall asleep while sitting in that chair, instead of doing your best to prevent it as you might be used to in meditation practice.
What happens next is pretty obvious. Sooner or later you begin to fall asleep and lose consciousness. Muscles relax completely, your hand lets go of the spoon which falls down onto the plate or bowl, producing a loud clanging noise, which wakes you up forcefully and abruptly. That very instant your goal or statement of intent is committed into your subconsciousness or the answer you were seeking appears in your mind as an image or feeling. You should write it down as soon as possible and use it.
If you have problems falling asleep during the day, you may want to experiment to determine the best time. For example, many people find it very easy to go back to sleep right after getting out of bed, so try doing it first thing in the morning.
This borderline state between sleep and wakefulness is considered one of the most magickal modes of mind, the proverbial crossroads where the devils await, and this simple practice provides a way to access it easily and reliably. Just don’t put off writing or sketching the images and impressions your obtained — memory is very tenuous in this state and they may dissipate within minutes.
